John o’Groats and Dunnet Head are the northernmost points of mainland Great Britain, and two key spots to visit on Scotland’s North Coast 500 road trip. The NC500, as it’s colloquially known, is my favorite road trip on the planet, both giving and receiving, and the northeast segment of the trip boasts some of the best highlights.
Eagle Brae is a collection of ten luxurious, self-catering log cabins in Scotland, tucked into a secluded valley west of Loch Ness. The Canadian red cedar logs, free-roaming deer and other wildlife, attention to detail, and proximity in the Highlands make the cabins perfect for a short or long stay holiday. Of all the places I’ve stayed in Scotland, Eagle Brae is easily the best.
I’ve stayed in some truly unusual accommodations around the world, but the Reverb Hotel, situated atop a flak tower in Hamburg, was one of the most interesting. Hard Rock Hotels manage the hotel, and the quirky decorations, fantastic views, and comfortable rooms made our stay quite memorable.
One of my favorite excursions from Chiang Mai is to the village of Pai. However, visiting in 2025 is nothing like visiting in 2016. Pai has changed enormously over the years, and my visit in 2024 was nothing like my first visit in 2016. Despite the town’s significant growth, the landscape is as beautiful as ever, and I would still highly recommend that everyone in Northern Thailand put Pai on their itinerary.
My new favorite weekend getaway is a true hidden gem. Most people have never heard of Taghazout or Tamraght, let alone Agadir. However, Taghazout Bay is the perfect destination for surfing, relaxing, sunbathing, eating, shopping, and generally having the perfect vacation. I predict the region will become super crowded in the next few years, so you’ll want to visit before it gets too busy.
